Music Curriculum Update Term 2
This term in music, our Year 7 students have been exploring the elements of music and developing their vocal skills in singing. They’ve been learning about tonality, tempo, dynamics, and articulation and have been applying this to their performance. As part of their journey, they’ve been working hard on a song that will feature in our Winter Showcase.
Year 8 have been exploring tonality and structure, focusing on the piece ‘In the Hall of the Mountain King’ by Grieg. Through this, they’ve learned about binary form, experimented with articulation, and even composed their own short chromatic motifs. Students have been using pianos to develop their ideas and refine their performance skills and techniques ready to perform in lesson.
Year 9 have been looking at the Ensemble Musician, and they have been working in small ensemble groups to recreate ‘Shotgun’ by George Ezra, focusing on performance and ensemble skills and working together as together as a team. Through these lessons, students have developed their ensemble techniques, learning how to listen, balance, and blend their parts to create a polished group sound.
